The Race

This week I’m working on a feature about the voting processes of the U.S. presidential election. I’m discussing voting booths, the parties of yore, the electoral college, the independent vote, and more. We’ve decided to make the Netcetera section a collective effort on one topic per week, within reason. So next week we’ll be profiling five major political candidates, five “hot states,” and five elements of the voting process. If you get bored, there’s always be “Links” and “The Daily Tilt,” which will not be politically focused.

It was exciting to see Hillary win New Hampshire last night, if only to level the playing field a little and remind people that we have a long way to go before any decision is made. It was also nice to see McCain surge ahead, showing that eight years later, a politician can still have the same effect on people.

There’s a good article in FD’s Beyond the Headlines section on the Clinton v. Obama matchup. They’re both running on “change,” and keep tweaking their slogans to reflect different aspects of change. But what’s the meaning behind it all?

This guide ought to help in that department, too. I used it during my research when I was writing “People” profiles on Romney and Clinton last weekend.
